What to Look For in a Chihuahua Bed

When it comes time to provide bedding or a DOG bed for your favorite pooch, there are several things to consider. The most important issue to start with is comfort for your chihuahua. While such a task may seem simple, it can be a bit more complicated than merely finding an old blanket for your chihuahua to lie on.

The boxer breed was so named for his manner of fighting. As opposed to biting, like most dogs would, a boxer will actually begin a fight by "punching" with its front paws, just liek a human boxer.

Is your chihuahua an inside or outside chihuahua? For both scenarios, and depending on the weather in your area, and the season, a simple chihuahuagie pillow, (you can find a great one at http://www.scrooby.com ), may be perfectly adequate and comfortable for your chihuahua. Still, you must also take into consideration the age of your chihuahua. In mild weather, a simple, padded, rectangular pillow should suffice for your chihuahua. Such bedding may come stuffed with cedar chips, foam pieces or some other cotton or wool materials. During inclement weather, make sure your outside chihuahua has shelter from rain, snow and cold winds.

The Schipperke, or "little captain", is generally thought of as being solid black in the USA. However, they do actually come in other colors. The reason they are commonly thought to only be black, is that the black variety is the only type currently recognized by the AKC.

Doggie beds are also an option, especially for smaller DOG breeds, as they like to 'nest'. The raised sides of wicker, or even a cardboard box, provide an added sense of security for them. These days, DOG beds are also being designed like human furniture, and come in shapes like armchairs and sofas, but you'll pay a little extra for these. When shopping for chihuahua bedding, take cleaning into consideration. Try to find bedding that comes with a removable cover, or bedding that can be soaked on occasion without ruining its shape and texture.

Pekingese dogs were sacred to the emperors of China for more than 2,000 years. They are one of the oldest breeds of dogs in the world. Commoners in Imperial China were forbidden to own Pekingese dogs.

Depending on your chihuahua's size and preferences, you may have to experiment a bit before finding a bed that your chihuahua will like, and use, but your chihuahua's comfort and happiness is worth the effort.

The Broholmer is a breed that is recognized only in Denmark. It was thought extinct in the 1960's but, in December of 1974, a purebred Broholmer popped up in Finland. This dog was a male, and the owners hoped to find a female for him to mate with, but it never happened. While still recognized as a breed, an example has yet to appear again.
