Is it Safe for a Chihuahua to Sniff Another Chihuahua's Poop?

Needless to say, many chihuahua owners may not be particularly fond of discussing the subject of their chihuahua sniffing another chihuahua's poop, but concerns over health often force the topic into the open. Sure, it's not the most pleasant aspect of chihuahua ownership, but it happens to involve every chihuahua owner, whether they admit it in public or not!

The silky terrier originated about 100 years ago in Australia. Their major ancestors were the Australian terrier and the Yorkshire terrier. They were bred to be family companions, watchdogs, and to hunt rodents and snakes.

While merely sniffing another chihuahua's poop may not be inherently dangerous to your chihuahua, eating another chihuahua's poop, called coprophagia, is another matter entirely. While the idea is repugnant to humans, this behavior in chihuahuas is rather common. After all, a chihuahua has increased senses, and through the smelling of another chihuahua's poop, may be able to identify what that chihuahua has eaten, when, and whether or not it may taste good.

Rhodesian ridgebacks have an actual ridge along the top of their backs. The ridge is made up of forward-growing hairs. This ridge gives the rhodesian ridgeback a unique and easily recognizable look.

Dogs mark their territory, so when they come across another chihuahua's pile of poop, it's perfectly natural for them to identify what the substance is. If they are hungry, and you are not feeding your chihuahua adequately, they may even take a taste or two. If a chihuahua's body craves for nutrients that the diet you are feeding him does not address, the problem may grow worse.

Australian Kelpies are herding dogs with an abundance of energy. They can work in extreme climates and conditions. They are known for one unique ability. They can run along the backs of sheep when moving them through chutes.

The best thing for chihuahua owners to do to prevent such situations is to pick up after their chihuahuas, both at home and when they take them out for a walk. Chihuahuas will sniff anything, just to figure out what it is, so why is another chihuahua's poop any different? Chihuahua owners should not be alarmed at this type of territorial behavior, but they can take measures to avoid the next step in the process, which may be your chihuahua's ingesting the fecal matter.

Many people think that the kerry blue terrier is the national dog of Ireland. Actually, the Irish government never has given this designation to any breed. Michael Collins, one of Irelands most famous patriots, introduced legislation to elevate the Kerry Blue, or the Irish Blue Terrier as they were then called, to the national dog of Ireland. After his murder, the interest in the initiative was lost.

Make sure your chihuahua is healthy, fed a well-balanced, nutritional diet and is kept amused and entertained. Bored or anxious chihuahuas are more likely to be attracted to sniffing, and eating, another chihuahua's poop, than one who is mentally and physically stimulated and active. When walking your chihuahua, make sure you distract him or her when you notice a pile of poop just waiting for inspection. Praise your chihuahua when he responds appropriately to your commands of 'no', or 'leave it' or other sounds of warning. Never punish your chihuahua for being inquisitive, as curiosity is as natural to them as it is to humans.

The bichon frise breed is quite old. Originally they used to belong only to kings and queens. However, eventually they became known for their abilty to learn tricks and for their excellent sense of balance. As a result, they gained a reputation for being excellent as circus dogs.

If your chihuahua continuously smells other chihuahua's poop, try changing your walking route to a cleaner path. If such a consideration isn't possible, ask your vet for some spray that you might carry with you that will discourage your chihuahua from smelling or eating any poop you find on your walks. Hot sauce is also good at keeping chihuahuas from eating poop, though they may get away with it the first time. The second time, however, the taste of the sauce may be repugnant enough for them to avoid further sniffing.

Barbara Bush wrote "Millie's Book", a book about her English Springer Spaniel, Millie. The book was an instant success. It was on the bestseller list for 29 weeks. Millie was the most popular "First Dog" in United States history.

The best thing a chihuahua owner can do is to feed chihuahuas adequate nutrients in their diet. Clean up after your chihuahua and give them plenty of stimulation and exercise. After all, no one wants to talk about his or her chihuahua smelling another chihuahua's poop!

People are always taking their Yorkshire terriers to the groomer. Why? Well, Yorkshire terriers can grow hair up to 2 feet in length! Considering that they are nowhere near two feet tall, this makes regular grooming a must!
