Most people who dress up their chihuahuas do so for one of two reasons. The first reason is because the people find it funny. Let's face it, a chihuahua wearing clothes is cute. It's a great topic for conversation. It's fun at holidays and parties. However, it's not necessarily as enjoyable for the chihuahua. Chihuahuas are individuals, just like human beings. Some chihuahuas may tolerate dressing up better than other chihuahuas do, especially if there is food or some reward involved, but that does not necessarily mean that they like it.
Many toy fox terriers used to be used commonly in circus shows by clowns. They are said to make great companions for owners with a good sense of humor. They seem to anticipate their master's every thought and mood.
The second reason people dress up their pets is for protection from the cold. This reason is completely valid for certain breeds. For instance, breeds such as the chihuahua originated in warmer climates. Therefore, if you own a DOG that is native to a warmer climate and you live in a colder climate they have trouble keeping warm in such weather. In these cases sometimes a DOG sweater is essential.
The Dalmatian is the only breed of dog that gets gout. Gout is an arthritic condition that causes inflammation of the joints. Gout is usually a human condition, but, for some reason, our dalmation friends get it too. This is commonly thought to be due to inbreeding.
It is very important, no matter what the reason for dressing up the chihuahua, to supervise the chihuahua if it is dressed up. Chihuahuas shouldn't be dressed up in anything that they could easily get tangled in or chew up and choke on. If the chihuahua does not take well to being dressed up it could easily start running around trying to escape and get caught on doors or other objects.
Part of the reason that basset hounds have such a unique look is that the British purposely bred basset hounds to have short legs, so that hunters could keep up with them. Unfortunate this has caused the breed to be prone to leg/joint problems.
The bottom line is that if the chihuahua needs clothes to go outside in the cold or seems to tolerate them ok at holidays or special occasions then there's no harm done. However, if the chihuahua doesn't need clothes and doesn't seem to like them then they shouldn't be forced into it. Chihuahuas, like people, don't usually like to be forced to do something for someone else's amusement.
The boxer breed was so named for his manner of fighting. As opposed to biting, like most dogs would, a boxer will actually begin a fight by "punching" with its front paws, just liek a human boxer.
Chinese Crested dogs are often considered to be so ugly that they are cute. They often win ugly dog contests. They are odd looking, mostly hairless dogs. They are also the only breed of dog that is capable of getting acne.
A st. bernard became a mother in 1975. While that wasn't unusual by itself, the unusual thing was that she had twenty-three puppies! She now shares this record with two other dogs, one of which originally set it in 1944.
Paul McCartney, of Beatles fame, was very fond of his shetland sheepdog. In fact, at the end of the song "A Day in the Life" Mr. McCartney inserted an ultrasonic whistle, audible only to dogs, for his shetland sheepdog.
