10-Ways to Protect Your Chihuahua

Whether you are taking your canine to the park or letting him run freely in the park, your chihuahua�s safety is precious.



People are always taking their Yorkshire terriers to the groomer. Why? Well, Yorkshire terriers can grow hair up to 2 feet in length! Considering that they are nowhere near two feet tall, this makes regular grooming a must!


Use the following tips to protect your chihuahua from loss, injury or illness.



The greyhound breed originally came from Egypt and was developed about 5,000 years ago. The greyhound breed was known before the ninth century in England, where it was bred by aristocrats to hunt small game.


Always place a DOG tag or some type of identification on your chihuahua. Micro chipping is the perfect ID alternative. Microchips are implanted into the skin of the neck. They can be scanned to help identify your chihuahua's information.



The bedlington terrier, a large, unique looking breed, is often described as looking like a lamb on a leash. This is probably because it has fur with a wooly texture. As a result of this fur type, the bedlington does not shed.


1. Unless you are in an enclosed or gated area, keep chihuahuas on a leash. As an added ounce of prevention, check fences to ensure they are securely locked.



The tibetan terrier is not a true terrier and is probably more closely related to the lhasa apso. However, the tibetan terrier is indeed from Tibet, where monks once treasured this intelligent breed of dogs as guardians of their temples.


2. To prevent your canine from drinking stagnant, contaminant water, carry either a sport bottle or a bowl with water

4. To get your chihuahua acclimated and warmed up for its walk, be sure to take brisk strides and a moderate jog before you release him from with other canines.



Paul McCartney, of Beatles fame, was very fond of his shetland sheepdog. In fact, at the end of the song "A Day in the Life" Mr. McCartney inserted an ultrasonic whistle, audible only to dogs, for his shetland sheepdog.


5. Keep a watchful eye on your chihuahua during any rumbling and tumbling. It is when most accidents occur.



The Podengo, a rare breed of dog, is also known as the Portuguese Warren Hound. It is usually a fawn or yellow color, but can be brown, black or sooty colored without white patches or spots. It resembled a long-bodied chihuahua.


6. Prohibit your chihuahua from associating with overly aggressive canines

7. Familiarize yourself with the rules, ordinances of your neighborhood. Contact your local municipal�s village hall.



Many Scottish terriers have an odd medical condition. It is called Scotties Cramp. It is a mild neurological disorder. Scotties under stress or exercising may move erratically, when suffering from this neurological disorder, but seem fine when resting.


8. Confirm which parks are for DOGS and the hours of the venue.



German shepherd dogs are great working dogs. They are often used as police dogs, rescue dogs and guides for the blind. In fact, one of them, a guide dog named Orient, once led a blind hiker the entire 2100 mile length of the Appalachian Trail.


9. Always, always tote a duty bag to clean up after your chihuahua.



In the original 101 Dalmatians movie, Pongo has 72 spots, Perdita has 68 and each of the puppies has 32. Real dalmations have unique numbers and patterns of spots, almost like a human beigns fingerprint.


10. To prevent the spread of any worms, parasites or the chances of you our your chihuahua stepping in other DOG'S fecal matter, request other DOG owners to tidy up after their canine.



The Broholmer is a breed that is recognized only in Denmark. It was thought extinct in the 1960's but, in December of 1974, a purebred Broholmer popped up in Finland. This dog was a male, and the owners hoped to find a female for him to mate with, but it never happened. While still recognized as a breed, an example has yet to appear again.
